GEM Chair’s Chat Goes Online

With this post, I am happy to kick off the “GEM Chair’s Chat” blog. I’ve heard people in the community express an interest in better communication from the Steering Committee and more transparency. I’ve been inspired by the wonderful blog by Mike Liemohn at https://liemohnjgrspace.wordpress.com/ for his role as Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Geophysical Research – Space Physics (he is also a past GEM Chair!) to create this blog. (The content that will be on this blog represent the activities of the GEM Steering Committee; this blog is NOT affiliated with the National Science Foundation.) Check in here for GEM news and updates. As always, please contact me with comments or suggestions on how to improve GEM. GEM has been, and remains, a grass-roots organization. Your input isn’t just desired, it is needed!

I am the 2020-2022 Chair of the Geospace Environment Modeling (GEM) Steering Committee. The committee is responsible for the science and organization of the GEM workshops. Geospace Environment Modeling (GEM) is a broad-based, community-initiated research program on the physics of the Earth's magnetosphere and the coupling of the magnetosphere to the atmosphere and to the solar wind. The purpose of the GEM program is to support basic research into the dynamical and structural properties of geospace, leading to the construction of a global Geospace General Circulation Model (GGCM) with predictive capability.
